today's pictures: 20030512 cars and more | 20030513 lost on teramachi | 20030514 kyoto adventure

today was awesome. well it had its low points, but overall good. after language class, went to the library with jenn to check our email etc. meg was on again - im getting to talk to her and andy a lot, which is awesome. at 12 we had to go do the "kyoto adventure" williams-sensei thought up. my group was alexis, josh and me. our assignment was to go to myoushinji shrine and ask the monks questions about the shrine and its contents - what sect they are associated with, questions about the painting of the dragon on the roof of the shrine, about the bell, etc. finding our way to the shrine was an endeavor in and of itself, and we made good use of our ichinichi jyoushaken (one day bus pass) as we hopped from bus to bus trying to find the way there. finally we arrived at the shrine (on foot) around 4pm and most things were closed down. we did get to talk to a guide about the shrine and ask him our questions. he spoke no english so we had to make full use of our japanese. we also got quite a few opportunities to ask people directions while trying to find our way there as well. finally we headed home, saw the inside of at least 4 more buses, and finally found our way back to somewhere familiar (the infamous kawaramachi street). here alexis and i parted ways and i decided to look for an electronic kanji dictionary before heading home. naturally, i got lost. BUT! stumbling around teramachi, i came across an ad for an initial D arcade game. wo0t! so up i went and enjoyed a few runs down akina in takumi's hachiroku. the game was called version 2, and there were some cars that weren't in any of the stages i've seen, which made me wonder if there's something new out. while continuing to look for the subway station, i came across a department store that advertised tower records on the 9th floor, so up the escalators i went to see if they had any initial d (and strangely happened to pass alexis going down one as i went up another). they didn't. came across another video store that advertised anime, and they had initial D, but i was in a hurry and couldnt take the time to try and figure out if there was anything new. it didn't look like it though. i did realize that real, legal copies are much more expensive - each dvd only had about 3 episodes on it, and they were about $40 each. eek.

oh yeah, at tower records i picked up the new nofx cd. it's very political. it's actually really good, but weird to hear such strong political preaching from them. theres a 3 page rant in the liner notes about politics etc too. i noticed with The Decline that they seemed to actually have serious stuff to say, but didn't realize that it was an indication of an actual change in direction for the band. no real opinion on it tho, ive never really been too bothered by preachy lyrics - if the music's good, it's all the same to me.

hehe, now josh is buying a prepaid phone, and phyllis was talking about it as well, and i remember at least one other person said they were thinking of it. poseurs, all of them.

ugh, now i have to go do homework. it appears to be becoming a schedule - wake up at 630, leave for school at 730, be in school till like 2, then go do something downtown, get home just in time for dinner at 7, after dinner up to do homework, already sleepy, and then go to bed around 10-11. cant wait for the weekend so i actually have some free time. havent gotten to hang out with jenn in a while. tomorrow is her b-day, so i believe we're doing something for that, but not sure what. will be fun tho. and then friday i think we're going to do karaoke which i understand was awesome last time, though i didn't get to go. woohoo. but now is work time.
